Softball Recap: Spencer's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Spencer can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. Everything went their way against the Gilman Pirates as they made off with a 13-2 victory. This was a revenge game for the Rockets: when they faced off against the Pirates last Tuesday, they had to take a 8-4 loss.

Berklie Ireland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Spencer let Ema Schultz and Emma Nieman run wild. Schultz went 4-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Nieman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Nieman a new career-high. Chloe Timm also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Spencer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Spencer's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Gilman, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

Spencer wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-5 loss against Neillsville/Granton on the 6th. Gilman has also already played their next matchup (against Columbus Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
