Baseball Preview: Elko Indians vs. Lowry Buckaroos

Elko is on an 11-game streak of home wins, while Lowry is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Indians will welcome the Buckaroos at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Elko and Fernley, and Elko kept the tradition alive. The Indians put the hurt on the Vaqueros with a sharp 8-1 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 17 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Adam Roumanos was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Coy Jones was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Cooper Aranguena was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Lowry came out on top against Sparks on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run third inning. The Buckaroos were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Railroaders. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Like Elko, Lowry also got a great game from a two-way player: Erick Valencia. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Valencia was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Lowry's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 2-23-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Lowry got a massive performance out of Manny Herrera, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those triples marked the first that Herrera has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dyson Curry, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Lowry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Elko's win bumped their record up to 23-6. As for Lowry, their victory bumped their record up to 5-23-1.

Everything went Elko's way against Lowry when the teams last played back in March, as Elko made off with a 16-1 win. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buckaroos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
