Basketball Recap: Aiken Victorious

Aiken proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 27) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 50-47 win over the Georgetown Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Green Hornets have posted since November 23, 2024.

Tre'Von Walker had a dynamite game for Aiken, going 10 of 15 en route to 27 points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards Walker has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sanjaya Johnson, who posted five points in addition to nine boards and four steals.

Georgetown's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trenton Parker, who had 19 points and seven rebounds. Parker is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Amos Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Aiken has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for Georgetown, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Aiken wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-46 loss against Rock Hill on the 28th. As for Georgetown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-55 win against Camden on the 28th.
