Softball Recap: Hayfield Wins Going Away Against Medford

Hayfield came out on top against Medford on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Tigers. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Elaina Masching spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nora Bamlet was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Betsy Gillette, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Hayfield now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Medford, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hayfield will host New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Medford, they will square off against Tri-City United [Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center] at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
