Baseball Recap: Nansemond River Warriors vs. Western Branch Bruins

Nansemond River extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-13 in the process. They lost 18-3 to the Western Branch Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 back in March.

Nansemond River saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Guerra, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. Jackson Defreitas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

As for Western Branch, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

On Western Branch's side, Ian Taylor tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Taylor has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Western Branch got a massive performance out of Dino Jugulion, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Jugulion a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Walter, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
