Howards Grove is a perfect 10-0 against Random Lake since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Howards Grove made easy work of Oostburg and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
While Howards Grove won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-15, 25-16.
Howards Grove found their leader in sophomore Sydney Borgen, who had four aces. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Borgen. Elise Casadonte also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.
Howards Grove was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Random Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oostburg.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 18-25, 25-8, 25-19.
Howards Grove's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Random Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-16.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Howards Grove has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Random Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Howards Grove took their victory against Random Lake in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
