Softball Recap: Cosumnes Oaks Comes Up Short

Cosumnes Oaks fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Monterey Trail on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 9-8. The Wolfpack were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Amyah Avila spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Ava Fong made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cosumnes Oaks has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Monterey Trail, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15.

Looking ahead, Cosumnes Oaks will welcome Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolfpack's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Monterey Trail, they will square off against Laguna Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
