Basketball Recap: Wawasee Takes a Loss

Wawasee was the 37-31 winner over Elkhart Christian Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Warriors were dealt a 56-15 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on Thursday. The Warriors were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Despite the loss, Wawasee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Scarlett Hardy posted three points and five boards. Hardy has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Audra Weaver also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Leading Elkhart Christian Academy to victory were Mia Hibbard and Kyla Yordy. Hibbard shot 58% from the field on her way to 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Yordy scored ten points in addition to eight boards and six steals. With that strong performance, Hibbard is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Ivy Clapsaddle, who earned six points and four steals.

Wawasee's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Wawasee has already played their next matchup, an 89-19 loss against Warsaw on the 6th. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-16 win against Hamilton on the 5th.
