3A Region 6 recap October 22, 2013
Prentiss scaled the state rankings by moving to 172 from 204 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region 6. The Bulldogs were able to move up by defeating Velma Jackson 18-16.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Collins beat McLaurin 46-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Tigers.
Morton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Deyton Lingle threw for 201 and 3 touchdowns and Raheem Davis had 102 yards receiving. On the ground Larod Ragsdale chipped in 114 yards. Ragsdale helped Morton's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 50 yards.
He was 11-26 with 1 interception.
Ragsdale was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 114 yards on 20 carries as the Panthers topped St. Andrews Episcopal. Ryu Warnsley also contributed to the rushing game with 16 yards on the ground.
Morton's Lingle and Davis have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A Region 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Lingle has thrown for 1,922 yards this season, while Davis has 33 catches for 694 yards. Emanuel Ross from the Falcons leads the league in rushing with 1,069 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Collins takes on second place Velma Jackson. Collins beat the Tigers last week, while Velma Jackson lost to Prentiss.
Kris Pickle's team's Lingle is within 78 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against McLaurin.
The league will see a high scoring game when Ryan Earnest's team and Cedrick Wilder's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 252 this season, while the Falcons have scored 249. Collins scored 46 points last week as it defeated Marc Herrington's team.
The Tigers lost to the Tigers 46-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Caleb Fulcher was a bright spot for McLaurin, as he ran for 20 yards in the defeat.
