The Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers 's's six-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They greeted the New Year with with a 55-36 victory over Liberty.
Mercer Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MJ Patton, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Patton has scored at least 25% of Mercer Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Chance Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Mercer Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Liberty, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercer Christian Academy will take on Victory Baptist Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Oak Hill at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Oak Hill is ranked 105th, while Liberty is ranked 104th).
