Softball Recap: Mendon Unity Takes a Loss

Mendon Unity had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it 17. They came up short against the Camp Point Central Panthers, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Morgan Arnsman and Jillian Shaffer did some serious damage despite the final result: Arnsman went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Shaffer went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those hits were Arnsman's first of the season.

As for Camp Point Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Considering they have won ten matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Camp Point Central's side, Emma Stephens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Stephens has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Miller, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Claire Huston, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Mendon Unity will take on Griggsville-Perry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Camp Point Central, they will challenge Brown County at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
