Volleyball Recap: Julia Coutcher and Taryn Pyle Secure Win for Maumee

Maumee took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Springfield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Blue Devils on Monday. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Blue Devils on their court since September 14, 2021.

Maumee wouldn't go down easily and took Springfield into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Leading Maumee to victory were Taryn Pyle and Julia Coutcher. Pyle had 13 digs and one assist, while Coutcher had 12 digs and eight assists. Those eight assists gave Coutcher a new career-high. Jamie Brooks also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

Maumee was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in three consecutive matches.

Maumee now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Springfield, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maumee will head out to challenge Fostoria at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield, they will challenge Anthony Wayne at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
