Football Recap: Chiefland Starts off Right with Win over Williston

Chiefland had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Williston Red Devils 36-35. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 10-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Chiefland was led to victory by Demorri Sweet and Matt Goodale. Sweet rushed for 113 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, while Goodale rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown. Sweet didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made nine total tackles.

Williston lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Terrence Marshall, who rushed for 75 yards and one score. John Jazikoff was another key signal caller, throwing for 123 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight passes.

Chiefland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-0 defeat against Baker County on the 29th. As for Williston, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Paxon School For Advanced Studies at 6:30 p.m. on the 5th.
