It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Pioneer ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the West Central Trojans 10-9. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won six in a row.

Jayson Layman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hunter Stover was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Rogers, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win got Pioneer back to even at 9-9. As for West Central, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pioneer will square off against Caston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for West Central, they will challenge Culver Community at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
