Baseball Recap: Whitko Comes Up Short

Whitko had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 11-11 to make it four. They fell just short of the South Adams Starfires by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Starfires this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-4 on Saturday.

As for South Adams, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-16 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

For South Adams' part, the team relied heavily on Kaleb Minger, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, Minger is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaden Baumer, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitko will take on Rochester at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Zebras' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Adams, they will head out to challenge Monroe Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Starfires' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Bears have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
