Baseball Game Preview: Murray Spartans vs. West Jordan Jaguars

For the second straight game, Murray will face off against West Jordan. The Spartans will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. Murray is on a five-game streak of home wins, West Jordan an eight-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.

Murray had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but West Jordan put an end to it on Monday. The Spartans came up short against the Jaguars, falling 11-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this match were averaging 3.35 runs allowed.

For West Jordan's part, Ethan Baldwin was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Baldwin a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

West Jordan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Murray, they moved to 15-4-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Murray hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like West Jordan struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
