Volleyball Recap: Cumberland Clippers vs. Barrington Eagles

Cumberland kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Barrington Eagles. If the Clippers were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Eagles when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

While Cumberland had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 26-28, 25-20, 25-20.

Barrington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lilly Floriani out in front who had 20 digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Floriani a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Melissa Freshman, who had four digs and three aces.

Looking ahead, Barrington will venture away from home to challenge St. Mary Academy-Bay View at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cumberland will be paying especially close attention to the Eagles' matchup: after the Eagles face off against West Warwick, they'll take on Cumberland again at 6:30 p.m. on the 25th.
