Baseball Game Preview: Norrix Knights vs. Portage Central Mustangs

Norrix hasn't had much luck against Portage Central recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Knights will take on the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Norrix has three straight wins, Portage Central has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Norrix didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Northwest on Monday.

Norrix got a great performance from Thomas Shockey as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Nevin Kelly was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Boston Grueter also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Portage Central came up short against Central on Tuesday, falling 7-1.

Norrix's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Portage Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Norrix suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Portage Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
