Softball Recap: Giles Has No Trouble Against Narrows

After only one run in their last matchup, Giles made sure to put some runs up on the board against Narrows on Friday. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Green Waves. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Addie Lowry made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Giles let Addisyn Vanderpool and Peyton Evans run wild. Vanderpool went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Evans went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Vanderpool a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah Ratcliffe, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Giles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Giles' victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Narrows, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Giles will face off against George Wythe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Narrows, they will square off against Craig County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Green Waves are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
