Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Calvin

Calvin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Northwood Falcons by a score of 11-6. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Falcons on March 1st, they had to take a 17-11 loss.

Haley Martin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Martin was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyleigh Blundell, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mattie Barnes, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Calvin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwood struck out nine times.

The win got Calvin back to even at 8-8. As for Northwood, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvin will host Glenbrook at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Loyola College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
