Softball Recap: Mills Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Mills won the last time they faced Mercy and things went their way on Friday too. The Vikings' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Vikings have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Pedroza tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mills got a massive performance out of Lucy Esquivel, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Esquivel has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Wong, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Mills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Mills' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mercy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-9.

Coming up, Mills will be playing in front of their home fans against Terra Nova at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mercy, they will venture away from home to challenge Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fightin' Irish have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
