Football Game Preview: Texas City Stingarees vs. Iowa Colony Pioneers

The Texas City Stingarees will face off against the Iowa Colony Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Texas City is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 41 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Fort Bend Marshall on Saturday. They were beaten by the Buffalos 38-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Stingarees have suffered since November 1, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Texas City got top-tier performance from Clyde Votaw, who rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 76 yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Iowa Colony came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Rangers to the tune of 51-0. Give the Pioneers' defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Texas City better focus on containing Gage Martinez and Denim Barnes as the pair were huge in Iowa Colony's win. Martinez threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns, while Barnes gained 94 total yards and two touchdowns. Those 153 passing yards gave Martinez a new career-high. Aaron Tenner helped Martinez out on the ground, rushing for 64 yards and one score.

Texas City's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3. As for Iowa Colony, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
