Basketball Recap: Serra Comes Up Short

Serra lost to Bishop Montgomery on January 14th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cavaliers had to suffer through a 74-40 loss at the hands of the Knights. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Knights are ranked 28th).

This is the second loss in a row for Serra and nudges their season record down to 14-12. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 23-4 Bishop Amat (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 88.6% over those games). As for Bishop Montgomery, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-2.

Coming up, Serra will challenge Verbum Dei Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cavaliers will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Bishop Montgomery, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bishop Amat at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Lancers have now posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
