Recap: Lovington Wildcats vs. Portales Rams
With a playoff game on the line, the Lovington Wildcats rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past the Rams 57-21 on the road. The result was nothing new for Lovington, who have now won six matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Wyatt Gomez, who threw for 384 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Gomez has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Cesar Gonzalez also helped out as he racked up 162 receiving yards.
Several Rams players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paxton Culpepper, who threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt. Braden Beck was another key contributor, picking up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The win (which was Lovington's seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.4 points per game. As for Portales, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.
Lovington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Portales also has no future games currently scheduled.
