Baseball Game Preview: Gardena Panthers vs. San Pedro Pirates

For the second straight game, Gardena will face off against San Pedro. The Panthers will face off against the Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gardena has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gardena is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against San Pedro on Monday. They lost 21-2 to the Pirates.

For San Pedro's part, Anthony Solis was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Solis also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because San Pedro is 6-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-12 otherwise. Solis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, San Pedro got a massive performance out of Tyrus Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Wilson has posted since back in April of 2024. Richard Justiniano was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

San Pedro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for San Pedro and bumps their season record up to 12-14. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Gardena, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season.
