Basketball Recap: Gadsden Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mayfield, Gadsden was happy to have turned things around on Monday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 48-47 victory over the Alamogordo Tigers. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Alamogordo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madisen Flores, who posted 13 points along with six assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Flores a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Teeya Gordon, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Gadsden's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 9-11. As for Alamogordo, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-18.

Gadsden will square off against Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gadsden is facing Organ Mountain at the right time seeing as Organ Mountain is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Alamogordo has already played their next matchup (against Centennial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
