Softball Game Preview: South Pasadena Tigers vs. Temple City Rams

South Pasadena is 1-9 against Temple City since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Rams at 3:30 p.m. South Pasadena will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

South Pasadena is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Temple City 17-8 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lucia Atencio and Natalie Kan were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Atencio struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Meanwhile, Kan tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Atencio went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Kan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Kan a new career-high.

In other batting news, South Pasadena let Taelyn Adams and Emma Becerra run wild. Adams went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Becerra went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Becerra has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jolene Wu, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

South Pasadena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

South Pasadena's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Temple City, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-11.
