Recap: Tri-Central Trojans vs. Peru Tigers
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Beech Grove, the Tri-Central Trojans were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Peru and snuck past 40-38. For Tri-Central, this counts as revenge for the 60-43 loss Peru walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Tri-Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Autumn Hurt out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hurt has scored at least 25% of Tri-Central's points. Natalie Newcom was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Peru still got an impressive performance from Kaylene Kirk, who scored 14 points. Kirk has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mareiona Mason, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Tri-Central's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Peru, they bumped their record down to 1-16 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Tri-Central will look to defend their home court on Friday against Sheridan at 6:00 p.m. Sheridan is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.8 points per game. Peru will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Delphi Community at 1:30 p.m. on January 6th.
