Baseball Game Preview: Benjamin Franklin Chargers vs. Payson Longhorns

The Benjamin Franklin Chargers will venture away from home to take on the Payson Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Benjamin Franklin has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Benjamin Franklin blew Mogollon out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Mogollon got their revenge. The Chargers fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 10-8.

Talan Speir and Jovanni Sanchez did some serious damage despite the final result: Speir scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Sanchez scored two runs while going 1-for-1. Benjamin Franklin is 2-1 when Speir posts two or more runs, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jono Wilcox, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Payson didn't have quite enough to beat Bourgade Catholic on Monday and fell 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Longhorns have lost by just one run.

Benjamin Franklin's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-9-1. As for Payson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

Benjamin Franklin skirted past Payson 5-4 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
