League recap: Cleveland climbs in standings with win

AAA District 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Cleveland was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in AAA District 5. The Blue Raiders beat Red Bank 41-7 earlier in the week.

Bradley Central moved up to 44 from 78 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 23-21 win over Blackman helped the Bears improve their standing.

Rhea County's Austin Dotson and Demitrius Patterson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Dotson has thrown for 678 yards this season, while Patterson has 17 catches for 240 yards. McMinn County's Kelvin Wells Jr. leads the league in rushing yards with 663.

A big matchup in AAA District 5 this week will be when the Cherokees take on Walker Valley. As it stands, McMinn County is in first, while the Mustangs are in third.

Cleveland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Lions, 41-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the Ron Crawford's team.
