Baseball Recap: Wyoming Valley West Takes a Loss

Wyoming Valley West's last matchup with Hazleton Area could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Wednesday. The Spartans came up short against the Cougars, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 back in April.

Jake Dubaskas was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

Wyoming Valley West has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Hazleton Area, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wyoming Valley West will take on rival Dallas at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hazleton Area is set to square off against their familiar foe Berwick at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Cougars' favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the Bulldogs have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
