            Softball Recap: Petoskey Northmen vs. Gaylord Blue Devils        
        
		
        
        
            Gaylord hit Petoskey with a nine-run fifth inning  on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Northmen fell  11-8 to the Blue Devils. The pitching woes were  uncharacteristic for the Northmen, who until this  contest were averaging 3.97  runs allowed.

 Bre VerCautren was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She  didn't allow a single  earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't  tossed less than five  strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate,  going 1-for-4 with two  runs, one  stolen base,  and two  RBI.
 VerCautren wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Addisynn Segraves, who  went 2-for-4 with one  run and one  RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Petoskey and  nudges their season record down to 26-7. As for Gaylord, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with the  win, which was their fifth straight  on the road.
 Looking ahead, Petoskey will head out to  square off against Rogers City  at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Gaylord, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boyne City  at 4:15  p.m.  on Thursday. The Ramblers will roll in looking for their  fifth straight  victory, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
