Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Brooke Smith and Gretchen Wright Lead College Park to Victory

College Park won the last time they faced Alvin, and things went their way on Thursday too. The College Park Cavaliers snuck past the Alvin Yellowjackets with a 46-41 win. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 501st, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 1034th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

College Park was led to victory by Gretchen Wright and Brooke Smith. Wright dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards, while Smith went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. That's the most steals Smith has posted since back in January.

Alvin's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendell Jackson, who posted 12 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cyannah Owens, who had eight points.

College Park now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Alvin, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.

College Park didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-30 loss against Georgetown on the 5th. As for Alvin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 39-32 victory against Incarnate Word on the 5th.
