Recap: Avon Orioles vs. Ben Davis Giants
Even though the Avon Orioles have not done well against the Ben Davis Giants recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Avon enjoyed a cozy 65-47 victory over Ben Davis. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Avon.
Avon was led to victory by Mya Thompson and Aniah Smith. Thompson scored 20 points, while Smith dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Smith hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Wren, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Several Giants players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Scottlynn Johnson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Aleia Sultzer, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ben Davis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
The win got Avon back to even at 8-8. As for Ben Davis, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will take on Franklin Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Franklin Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Saturday. As for Ben Davis, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Pike at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th.
