Baseball Game Preview: Fountain Valley Barons vs. Torrance Tartars

The Fountain Valley Barons will head out to square off against the Torrance Tartars at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Fountain Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Torrance's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fountain Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Trabuco Hills a 7-0 shutout. The Barons not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 9-1).

Josh Grack made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mikey Patterson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Drake Robinson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Torrance had just enough and edged out Oaks Christian 3-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tartars.

Mateo Rickman was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Torrance pushed their record up to 19-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fountain Valley, their record now sits at 17-13.
