League recap: Shawnee enters state Top 25

5A District 3 recap October 22, 2013

Shawnee was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Bishop Kelley. The Wolves came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 44 last week.

Shawnee made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,414 from 2,234. The advance stemmed from a 42-10 victory over the Comets last week.

McAlester's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caden Pratt threw for 170 and 2 touchdowns and Cade Harkins had 73 yards receiving. On the ground Jarome Smith chipped in 220 yards. Mason Bumphus helped McAlester's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 69 yards.

Smith was a beast in the backfield as the Buffaloes beat Durant.

Harkins was the best wideout in 5A District 3 this week as McAlester bested the Lions. Harkins tallied 4 receptions for 73 yards. Bumphus helped McAlester's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 69 yards.

McAlester's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Buffaloes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dalton Wood has thrown for 960 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Harkins has 28 catches for 499 yards.

Smith of the Bryan Pratt's team is only 95 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Smith has rushed for 905 yards on 72 carries so far this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when J.J. Tappana's team takes on the Buffaloes. The Comets are in fourth place, while McAlester is in first place.

The Buffaloes led the league in scoring this week after putting up 59 points on Durant. Pratt ran for 79 yards during the win.
