Basketball Recap: Orem Takes Down Ranked Springville

Orem faced Springville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Tigers snuck past the Red Devils with a 65-61 win. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Despite the defeat, Springville had strong showings from Mason Hansen, who posted 22 points, and Jamyn Sondrup, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. Sondrup is becoming a predictor of the Red Devils' success: when he posts at least ten rebounds the team is 11-4 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Swift Hall was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Orem is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Springville, they moved to 12-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Orem will head out to face off against Timpview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Thunderbirds have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Springville, they will venture away from home to square off against Salem Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils will be up against the Skyhawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
