Baseball Recap: Morgantown Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

Morgantown won the last time they faced Brooke and things went their way on Monday too. The Mohigans came out on top against the Bruins by a score of 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mohigans.

Vincent Aloi made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Bowers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Morgantown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ryan Nipper, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Morgantown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brooke struck out eight times.

Morgantown pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brooke, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-8 record.

Looking ahead, Morgantown will head out on the road to face off against Buckhannon-Upshur at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Buccaneers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Brooke, they will welcome Weir at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
