Basketball Recap: Clinton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Union last Friday, Clinton came back down to earth. The Clinton Dark Horses took a blow against the Lakewood Leopards on Monday, falling 69-35. The Dark Horses were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Leopards apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Clinton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Zy Wallace, who posted five points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dustin Pike, who scored five points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Clinton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Lakewood was led to victory by Xavier Hall and Cameron Williams. Hall dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards, while Williams went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points and six rebounds. The contest was Williams' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dontaveous Smith, who put up seven points along with five boards and four steals.

Clinton dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Lakewood, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Clinton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-40 loss against Midway on the 7th. Lakewood has also already played their next game, a 70-59 win against Pender on the 13th.
