Basketball Recap: Sergei Mikhalev's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Avant Garde Academy over Boca Raton Christian

Avant Garde Academy played a tough match on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Boca Raton Christian Blazers, falling 79-56. The Sharks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Avant Garde Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sergei Mikhalev, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Guzman, who posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Avant Garde Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Joshua Good was nothing short of spectacular for Boca Raton Christian: he went 10 of 17 on his way to 37 points along with seven boards and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Good a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Jeemias, who put up 13 points and three steals.

Avant Garde Academy now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Boca Raton Christian, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.

Avant Garde Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-42 win against Greenacres Christian on the 5th. As for Boca Raton Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 82-66 defeat against Pine on the 5th.
