Softball Recap: Escalon Takes a Loss

Escalon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Ripon Indians, falling 7-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Kaylynn McCutcheon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Escalon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariana Velasco, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Aniston Hunt also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Escalon's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Ripon, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escalon will square off against Hughson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Hughson has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Ripon, they will face off against Hilmar at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
