Softball Game Preview: St. Maries Lumberjacks vs. Kellogg Wildcats

St. Maries has gone 8-2 against Kellogg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. St. Maries will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, St. Maries turned things around against Priest River on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 22-3 margin over the Spartans. The Lumberjacks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.

Addyson Stewart made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Thomas, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Brenna Elliott was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

St. Maries was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Kellogg's offense. They lost 21-0 to Timberlake on Friday. The Wildcats' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

St. Maries now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Kellogg, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

St. Maries took their victory against Kellogg when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 23-7 score. Will the Lumberjacks repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
