Baseball Recap: Crestview Takes a Loss

Crestview had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 12-9 to make it four. They fell just short of the Newton Falls Tigers by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on Monday.

As for Newton Falls, the win got them back to even at 9-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 7, 2025.

For Newton Falls' part, LeLand Vargo made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave Vargo a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Newton Falls is 3-1 when Vargo posts three or more hits, but 6-8 otherwise.

Vargo wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zayne Shelton, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Crestview will challenge John F. Kennedy Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Newton Falls, they will face off against Ravenna at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
