Basketball Game Preview: Archbishop McNicholas Rockets vs. Mt. Healthy Fighting Owls

The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will venture away from home to challenge the Mt. Healthy Fighting Owls at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Archbishop McNicholas knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Mt. Healthy likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Archbishop McNicholas came up short against Archbishop Alter and fell 72-64. The Rockets haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Despite the loss, Archbishop McNicholas saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grant Waters posted 21 points along with five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was AJ Gundler, who put up 13 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mt. Healthy beat New Richmond 51-47 on Wednesday.

Mt. Healthy's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Archbishop McNicholas, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.

Archbishop McNicholas didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Mt. Healthy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win. Does Archbishop McNicholas have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mt. Healthy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
