The Cedar Reds will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Grantsville Cowboys at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Cedar came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-2 to Pine View. The Reds haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Payton Ludlow was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Grantsville had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hunter an 11-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won five in a row.
Jordan Fawson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Mason Butler looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, Krue Warren was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Guhner Kimber, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Grantsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hunter only posted an OBP of .273.
Cedar now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Grantsville, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Cedar couldn't quite get it done against Grantsville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 15-11. Can Cedar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
