Baseball Recap: Winnsboro Comes Up Short

Winnsboro and Gunter squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Winnsboro had to settle for second. They fell 4-1 to the Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Friday.

Ethan Arrington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Winnsboro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolee Carroll, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Ethan Young also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Winnsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12-1. As for Gunter, the victory (which was their 27th in a row) raised their record to 35-1.

Winnsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gunter, they will face off against Ponder on Thursday. The Lions will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
