Baseball Preview: Valparaiso Vikings vs. Lake Central Indians

Valparaiso and Lake Central are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Valparaiso Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Lake Central Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Valparaiso was able to grind out a solid win over Chesterton, taking the game 8-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Valparaiso.

Trevor Fenters made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (he also only allowed one walk). Fenters was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.

In other pitching news, Blake Shudick looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, DJ Malloy was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Nate Brumfield, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Lake Central entered their tilt with Noblesville with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged the Millers out 10-9.

Drew Kosteba and Brenden Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Kosteba scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Smith scored a run while going 2-for-3. Michael Szatkowski was another key contributor, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Valparaiso's record is now 2-0. As for Lake Central, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
