Volleyball Recap: Cocke County Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Cocke County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Grainger Grizzlies by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Fighting Cocks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grizzlies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2019.

Cocke County started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11.

Hannah Fisher paced Cocke County's offense, picking up seven kills. Fisher got some help from Loretta Kickliter and her 11 assists. Fisher was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Cocke County has already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against King's Academy on the 19th. Grainger has also already played their next matchup (against Hancock County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
