Baseball Recap: Estancia Takes a Loss

Estancia was the 7-3 winner over Pecos when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Bears fell 18-13 to the Panthers on Thursday. The Bears' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Michael Anaya put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Estancia is 2-1 when Anaya posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Justin Rubio and Joshua Villafuerte stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rubio went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Villafuerte got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Villafuerte has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Seecamp, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Estancia's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Pecos, they moved to 7-17 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Estancia has already played their next match, a 7-6 defeat against Clayton on the 3rd. As for Pecos, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-5 victory against Raton on the 3rd.
