Baseball Recap: Gridley Triumphs

Gridley posted their closest win since March 8th on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Washington Eagles.

Marcus Duncan looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Luis Murillo and Riley Engelmann did most of the damage at the plate: Murillo scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Engelmann went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Engelmann a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Francis, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Gridley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Washington, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Gridley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-4 loss against Palo Verde Valley on the 3rd. As for Washington, they will head out on the road to challenge Mission at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
